Kevin McMullen graduated with a BA in Fine Arts from Marywood University in Scranton Pennsylvania, and attended Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland for

graduate studies in painting.  He also studied under Henry Henshe at the Cape School of Art in Provincetown, as well as at The Art Student’s League in New York City.

 

Kevin’s work involves the direct observation of nature from which he discovers an intriguing subject that he feels drawn to explore more deeply.  In the field, en plein air, he develops a composition through which he can explore the way various pictorial elements interact with his personal response to the scene.  Both in the field, and later in his studio, he strives to create a tension between his objective and subjective responses to the work, with the belief that this dynamic is where one achieves the sublime, aesthetic experience.
